PCOS

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal disorders that affects women of reproductive age. It impacts the ovaries, leading to hormonal imbalances that can interfere with normal ovarian function. PCOS can cause a variety of symptoms, including irregular periods, excessive hair growth, acne, and even difficulty getting pregnant.

Symptoms of PCOS:

  • Irregular or missed periods
  • Excess hair growth (hirsutism) on the face, chest, or back
  • Acne and oily skin
  • Thinning hair on the scalp
  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
  • Ovarian cysts (visible on ultrasound)

Causes and Risk Factors:

The exact cause of PCOS isn't entirely understood, but it is believed to be linked to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Insulin resistance, a condition where the body doesn’t effectively use insulin, is common in women with PCOS and can worsen the hormonal imbalance. Increased levels of androgens (male hormones) are also common, contributing to symptoms like excess hair growth and acne.

How PCOS Affects Menstrual Cycles:

One of the most common signs of PCOS is irregular periods. Because of hormonal imbalances, the ovaries may not release eggs regularly, leading to missed or infrequent periods. This can affect fertility and make it difficult for women to conceive.

Managing PCOS:

PCOS can be managed through lifestyle changes, herbal remedies and sometimes fertility treatments. Diet, exercise, and certain herbal treatments like seed cycling or trying our PCOS HERBAL TEA can help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce symptoms.
